The other day, I was talking to my friend Jonathon and he introduced me to a topic I immediately had to research.
Did you know that there are middle-aged women out there who walk around with baby dolls, pretending they are real?

It is part of a world-wide phenomenon called "reborns."

Yesterday while on a magazine run, I picked up one that I had never heard of before: Hunger Magazine. It was all wrapped up in plastic to prevent my previewing it before purchase - but it said "For those who are visually hungry". Sounded good enough to me! I'm so glad that I picked it up. This magazine is incredible. The weight alone is a testament as to how much work goes into it.

Queen of Hearts // Giveaway!

 As if to prove chaos theory through my closet alone, I pulled this dress out of a day after I wore my neutrals outfit on Wednesday. Red is such an unexpected color for summer; I could feel it when I got dressed, and I could see in peoples faces as I passed them on the sidewalk: I felt as if I was breaking some unspoken rule! That's okay though...rules were meant to be bent, if not broken.

 These last couple days we here in Northern California have had a nice heat wave - last Saturday the temperatures reached the 100's - and San Francisco passed 80 degrees.  When the weather gets hot, I tend to reach for what is easy, loose, and comfortable.

Beauty

I have been struggling with an old, all too familiar demon lately: self image. I know that I am not alone in this - I’m sure we have all been there at one time or another. Constantly presented with images of beauty and body image, it is so difficult to remain detached.

As Gotye has sung “You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness”, I believe I can get addicted to a certain type of self abuse. I am forever finding reasons not to be happy with my body: if this was just a little bit smaller, if that was just a little more symmetrical, if this was a little more that, if that was a little more like hers...It never stops. It’s a living nightmare, really. My own personal hell. Tangled up in a web of self hate that no one can talk me out of, I have become my own worse enemy. Instead of being my best friend, I have developed an inner demon that refuses to let me be happy with who I am. It’s the most abusive relationship I have encountered. 

 

Glitter in the Sun

 Yesterday I found these two items hanging next to each other in my closet. Turns out, they make the perfect pair. My coworker called the shade of this dress "sherbert". I think that's appropriate. I think "sunset" would also suffice.

At an Angle

 A new purchase! I have been so good these last four months while trying to pay down my credit card, but this silk top was just too perfect to pass on. It's 1005 silk, a beautiful shade of pale pink, and it has a unique hemline. I think I have found a new wardrobe staple. Fun fact? The shoes are silk too!

You know that thought pattern you can get every once in a while where you think "wow, I should really do X, but Y is such a better idea. Yeah...I like Y. I think I'll do that. What a great idea." And then 20 minutes later you find yourself thinking "I'm so proud of myself for coming up with that great idea. I should do it."

The Luther Burbank Gardens seem to continuously brim full of life, no matter the season. Roses may not always bloom, but the foliage, trees and waterfall keep me visiting all year round. I shot my Amberie Lookbook in the gardens (and I don't mean to brag, but you should check it out!).
