Friday, March 11th 2011 was a tearful morning for me. It was 5 am my time, and my boyfriend woke me up with a message that my mother had left on his cell phone. My phone was charging on silent, and I had received several missed calls from my close friends, and my mother. "Tsunami" was the text. "Ohmygod, Hawai'i." I thought, and my heart jumped into my throat. I flipped on the television and what was plastered across the news was absolute panic and heartbreak: Japan was being torn apart with water, death, and fear. Hawai'i had mild tsunamis, yes. However my frantic calls, tweets and messages, thank God, were unneeded.
I wish I could say the same for Japan. My heart goes out to Japan, and it aches because I know that my heartache is not enough.
We can help. Dare I say it is in the name of humanity that we do help.

I got a text from ABC news around 5 a.m. as well that night. I was absolutely horrified. My heart breaks for those poor people in Japan. I can't even imagine what they are going through right now.
